- The areca palm, otherwise known as butterfly palm, golden cane palm, bamboo palm, or its Latin name, Dypsis lutescens, is a native of Madagascar.
- These plants can survive year-round outdoors in USDA zones 10 to 11, where the winter lows stay above freezing. Outdoors they may get 12 to 30 feet (4 to 9 meters) tall.
- Plant in a well-draining potting soil, in a pot with drainage holes. Allow the top of the soil to dry out between waterings, and water less often during the winter months.

Make sure you order the right size. I received Small size & not Large. My fault. But, it still fit ok, a little snug, yet it made me feel warm when I went outside. I will be ordering a large size in the near future. Some one else in the family will get the small size item.
